We are so pleased to share that fourth (4th) grader Aiden Barger’s documentary short, “GIVING BACK,” was selected to be screened at the Knox Film Festival on September 15th at 3:45 pm. Aiden and his dad started working together on mini-documentaries as a hobby last year to highlight small communities near their East Tennessee home. Kelly Barger, Aiden’s Mom, says, “I am so happy they both found a great activity that they can do together and one in which they produce a great product. This documentary and another one they are working on now both highlight the unique aspects of small rural communities and the special bonds between the people living there.”

Aiden worked diligently to interview each person captured in GIVING BACK. At just the mere age of 9, Aiden is off to a great start and may just be the youngest filmmaker being featured at the Knox Film Fest.

“We are so proud of Aiden and his dedication to sharing such a meaningful, regional story,” said Principal Kaye Simmons. Aiden joined Tate’s School in 2017 and worked with his Dad, Eric, to co-produce their first mini-documentary over a period of several months. Eric is the Vice President of C.R. Barger & Sons, a pre-cast concrete manufacturer.

2018 will be the 15th year for the Knox Film Fest. Originally the Secret City Film Festival, Founder and Executive Director Keith McDaniel moved the film festival to Knoxville in 2013 and rebranded it as the Knoxville Film Festival to create the largest and most complete film festival in the region. Held at Knoxville’s arthouse theater, the Regal Downtown West Cinema 8, the Knox Film Fest has become the region’s destination for independent cinema. Each year, the Knox Film Fest has close to 4,000 in attendance.

The Screening of GIVING BACK will be happening at the Regal Downtown West, Cinema 8 at 3:45 pm on September 15, 2018. You may also watch their documentary short at https://youtu.be/lwmJGUiWNP0

Please congratulate Aiden when you see him on campus!
