Alumni Spotlight: Greer Mackebee

May 26, 2016
By Brenda Seagraves

Greer graduated from Duke in 2012 with a degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering and from Stanford in 2015 with a J.D. and a Masters in Energy Resources.  He currently practices with a law firm in Washington, D.C. where he works on the development of new renewable energy and infrastructure projects.  Greer says, "The U.S.energy mix is changing rapidly year after year and I find it exciting to play a role in that transition."

Greer says, "I have so many good memories from years of camp and school at Tate's, but I'll always remember going all-out for the Spook Parade every Halloween.  I'll also never forget doing the cha-cha slide at 5th grade graduation!"

To the right, Greer is pictured with Alec Trebek (Jeopardy) where he was a semifinalist in the College Tournament which aired in Feb. 2012. His description: " Such a cool experience!"

Tate's School salutes you, Greer, for you many accomplishments.

Summer Learning Tip: Cynthia Catchpole

Cynthia Catchpole - Music Teacher

Even if your children don't take private music lessons, music learning doesn't have to stop over the summer!

There are several fantastic music-related websites that are fun and educational. One of my favorite children's music websites is New York Philharmonic Kids (www.nyphilkids.org).

Through the New York Philharmonic's website, kids can learn about different instruments, modern musicians, and famous composers. They can write their own music. They can find instructions to make several homemade instruments. And they can refresh your note reading skills through games, which will allow us to spend less time reviewing next fall and more time on new material.
