Meet Chef Gerry Gardner

As we prepare to open our new Athletic & Dining Hall, we want you to meet the man who is going to be making magic in the kitchen; Chef Gerry!

Food has always been a part of Chef Gerry’s history; beginning with his family’s 185 year old Black Angus cattle farm in Virginia. He started cooking in professional kitchens at age 19, and has worked in a variety of settings from family owned business to international hotels. He has also been an instructor for the Culinary Institute at the University of Tennessee mentoring and training young chefs.

Career highlights include winning the CityView Magazine Top Chef competition for desserts and placing second for the entrée in 2010, having the hotel restaurant voted best restaurant in downtown in 2013, and placing 3rd in the March of Dimes Signature Chef’s Auction in 2015. Chef Gerry thinks food should be clean and fresh without all of the trappings that can mask the true flavors of the ingredients. He feels that being a chef is a form of artistic expression and strives to make food approachable and fun with whimsical presentations or interpretations of classical dishes.

Chef Gerry is an award winning chef with more than 24 years of experience in all facets of the culinary industry. Past positions include Executive Chef at Gettysvue Country Club, Latitude 35, Crowne Plaza Hotel and Head Chef of Banquets and Catering at the Copper Cellar.

He is a creative powerhouse that is eager to get to know your children and get them excited about food! Be sure and welcome him to the Tate’s Family! Chef Gerry has been married for 20 years, and has two daughters, ages 10 and 13.
