At Tate’s School, athletics extends beyond competition—it is an opportunity to nurture character, foster resilience, and build community. Leading this mission with dedication and vision is Coach Andrew Horn, our Athletic Director who was recently featured by the Knoxville Independent School League.
A Passion for Service and Growth
Coach Horn’s journey into athletic leadership was guided by a deep desire to serve others while remaining active and engaged in his work. Athletics, he believes, provides a unique platform to share timeless lessons about “how to live and how to make a living” with the next generation. For him, the greatest reward is witnessing students—and fellow coaches—reach the goals they set for themselves, a reminder of the profound impact sports can have both on and off the field.
Beyond the Athletic Program
Outside of his responsibilities at Tate’s, Coach Horn enjoys the simple pleasures of life. He is an avid baseball fan and a loyal supporter of the Atlanta Braves, following nearly 100 games each season. He also enjoys walking his two senior dogs and spending quality time with family and friends. In addition to his devotion to the Braves, he proudly cheers for local favorites: the Tennessee Volunteers, the Tennessee Titans, the Memphis Grizzlies, and the Nashville Predators.
Leadership Philosophy
Coach Horn approaches his role with a clear philosophy: “Don’t hide your talents. Lead in the way you want your superiors to be leading for you—in what you say, how you say it, and how you walk it.” He encourages athletic directors and coaches alike to identify areas of need within their communities and to be the catalysts for positive change. For him, the role demands determination, flexibility, and innovation. His guiding reminder is both simple and powerful: “Would you be willing to sprint if the distance was unknown?”
A Lasting Impact
Through his leadership, Coach Horn continues to elevate Tate’s athletic program, ensuring that it remains a space where students grow not only as athletes but also as individuals of character and integrity. His vision, energy, and commitment embody the values of Tate’s School, making a lasting difference in the lives of the students and families he serves.
