After evaluating a talented, competitive pool of over 130 applicants, we are excited to announce that Dr. Jonathan Hodge has been selected as the next Principal of Tate’s School.

Dr. Hodge is highly regarded within our community for his longtime commitment to Tate’s School and Tate’s Day Camp, where he has faithfully served in a variety of leadership roles for over twenty years. His data-driven approach to curriculum development and course instruction is complemented by his academic credentials; he holds a Ph.D. in Leadership, with a specialization in Organizational Behavior. This academic foundation enables him to offer a unique combination of educational leadership and social science expertise to his new role as principal.

In addition to his responsibilities within the Tate’s community, Dr. Hodge has spent the past decade as a college educator in social and behavioral sciences. During this time, he has taught and mentored students, placing a strong emphasis on critical thinking, the cultivation of meaningful relationships, and the practical application of knowledge.

Dr. Hodge’s professional background as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist significantly influences his relational approach to school leadership. He believes that healthy communication and robust partnerships are fundamental to student achievement. This belief is evident in his interactions with staff, students, and families alike.

Beyond his local contributions, Dr. Hodge is an active presenter at regional and national conferences. His work consistently demonstrates a dedication for fostering strength through intentional connections, nurturing a positive school culture, and cultivating relational systems that empower both students and staff to thrive.

“ I am honored and excited to step into this role, where there are ongoing opportunities to serve our students, families, and staff. I look forward to continuing the strong legacy of academic excellence, character development, and community enrichment that has been the hallmark of the Tate’s experience for over 50 years,” said Dr. Hodge.

He will begin working with Mrs. Simmons in March to ensure a smooth transition in leadership, and will officially start as Principal on May 16, 2026. We are also pleased to announce that Mrs. Simmons will be serving as our curriculum advisor for the 26-27 school year to facilitate continuity within our advanced academic programs.

Jonathan lives in Knoxville with his wife, Elissa, and their four children, Ezra, Ephraim, Ari, and Asa. He is passionate about spending time with his family, his faith, blacksmithing, reading, and medieval history.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Jonathan Hodge as he embraces his new role as the fifth principal of Tate’s School.
